Revitalisation into a luxury department stores'
The Carsch-Haus on Heinrich-Heine-Platz is located in the centre of Düsseldorf's city centre.
The immediate vicinity is characterised by retail outlets, accommodation, cultural venues and restaurants.
The existing Carsch-Haus building currently has an above-ground area of approx. 6,937 m² and an underground area of approx. 9,997 m² as well as two parking levels. The existing building will be gutted - while preserving the listed façade - and extended by an atrium on Heinrich-Heine-Platz, which will provide structural access to the ground floor. The top floor will be converted into a catering area, which will require cuts to be made in the roof cladding and the roof extension. In addition, the load-bearing system in the area of the new atrium will be upgraded, various technical rooms will be converted and the entrance and exit of the underground car park will be relocated during the construction period. The inner-city location poses particular challenges in terms of construction scheduling and the logistics concept.
As part of the revitalisation of the Carsch-Haus into a luxury department stores' (Kaufhaus des Westens, KADeWe), the aim is to restore Heinrich-Heine-Platz as a central urban square for Düsseldorf with the Carsch-Haus in the leading role. To this end, the current traffic routing is to be relocated and routed along the east side of the Wilhelm-Marx-Haus.
