For connections that last.
Bridges are more than just structures - they connect people, regions and economic areas. Wayss & Freytag has stood for outstanding engineering services in bridge construction for decades. Our projects range from delicate pedestrian bridges to complex viaducts and large-scale road and railway structures.
With technical precision, innovative strength and a deep understanding of structural design, we create bridges that are functional, durable and architecturally convincing.
Pioneering work in prestressed concrete
Milestones in the art of civil engineering
Wayss & Freytag recognised the potential of prestressed concrete technology as early as 1934 and acquired the patent from French engineer Eugène Freyssinet. Just a few years later, the first German bridge with prestressed prefabricated elements was built near Oelde - a technical innovation that is now recognised as a monument. Another milestone followed in 1979 with the Kochertal Bridge near Geislingen: at 185 metres high, it was the highest bridge in Germany at the time. Such structures are exemplary of our claim to have a lasting impact on bridge construction in Germany through innovation and engineering expertise.
Variety in design and material
Customised solutions
Our bridge construction projects are built using steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and composite construction methods - depending on the structural requirements, intended use and local conditions. We rely on state-of-the-art technologies, precise construction processes and close coordination of all trades. Whether inner-city intersections, motorway flyovers or railway lines: We develop the right solution for every challenge. Complex foundation work and special civil engineering services are also part of our range of services and are implemented with the utmost care and technical expertise.
Refurbishment and maintenance
Bridges for generations
In addition to new construction, we also undertake the expansion, renovation and maintenance of existing bridge structures. The focus here is on maintaining the load-bearing capacity, adapting to current safety standards and extending the service life. Our engineers analyse existing structures, develop individual refurbishment concepts and implement them with minimal disruption to ongoing traffic. This ensures that important transport links remain safe and efficient in the long term.
