Project description
The 18 km long Fehmarnbelt tunnel will connect the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn (Schleswig-Holstein). It will be the world's longest immersed tunnel for combined rail and road transport.
- Construction of the 18 km long underwater tunnel
- Construction of the tunnel factory where the tunnel elements are manufactured
- Construction of the tunnel portals, toll stations, bridges and ramps
- The tunnel will consist of a four-lane motorway and a double-track, electrified railway line
- Tunnel elements: 79 individual elements, each 217 m long and weighing 73,000 tonnes
- 10 special elements with a basement containing facilities for the operation and maintenance of the tunnel
