Groundbreaking ceremony for the largest specialised library at Munich University

At Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, the “Philologicum”, the university’s largest specialised library, is currently being built. The groundbreaking ceremony was an important milestone for the construction of the library, which has a main usable area of 6,084 square meters. Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, Area South, is building the Philologicum, which offers space for approx. 450,000 books and media as well as for 700 modern reading and working desks. „A clear signal for the advancement of the arts and humanities“, was how the Bavarian Minister of Science, Dr. Ludwig Spaenle, described the construction of the Philologicum. It strengthens Munich as an “excellent business location”, said the minister. The construction of the specialised library worth 38 million €, financed by the free state of Bavaria, shall be completed by end of 2018.
