Kö Tunnel in Düsseldorf opened

Thomas Geisel, Mayor of Düsseldorf, opened the Kö Tunnel in Düsseldorf on 10.11.2015 after a construction period of approx. two and a half years.
Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, Area Centre, built the 870 m long road tunnel in the heart of Düsseldorf with the participation of Wayss & Freytag Spezialtiefbau (Special foundation) GmbH. Approx. 30,000 vehicles will use the new tunnel daily, thus passing under the Kö Bogen.

Precondition for the realisation of the second construction section was the dismantling of the Jan-Wellem flyover; the “Tausendfüßler” (millipede). This was carried out by a joint venture in which Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG also had the technical leadership and was already completed in June 2013.
