Acquisition success for the project 2. Stammstrecke of Munich

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG achieved an acquisition success in another IPA project in the rail partnership model. The alliance with the partners Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, Arbeitsgemeinschaft Porr GmbH & Co. KGaA, Porr Spezialtiefbau GmbH, Porr GmbH & Co. KGaA and the engineering consortium SSF Ingenieure AG and ILF Consulting Engineers AG was awarded the contract for a section of the “2. Stammstrecke” infrastructure project. The client is Deutsche Bahn (DB). It has awarded the overall project, including execution planning, in four so-called award packages for the construction of the easternmost tunnel section between the new underground passenger transport facility (uPva) at Ostbahnhof and the Berg-am-Laim Straße area. Two 516 metre long tunnel tubes, a 65 metre long rescue shaft and a 55 metre long road subway are being built in this section. Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is responsible for the construction of the pneumatic tunnels within the alliance.

‘The award of the easternmost tunnel section of the 2nd main line is a strong signal for progress and innovation,’ says Markus Springer, Head of Technology East for the 2. Stammstrecke. ‘The new rail partnership model ensures that we can build faster and more efficiently thanks to a new form of contract with an incentive system. In this respect, the new contract award is an important building block in bringing this infrastructure project, which is so important for the region, to a successful conclusion.’ For Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, this is already the fourth infrastructure project to be handled as a so-called IPA project in the rail partnership model, such as the ICE maintenance halls for the Neues Werk Cottbus project and the Gäubahn Stuttgart and Residenzbahn Pforzheim projects.

We are delighted to be involved in the realisation of a further section of the “2. Stammstrecke” in Munich.
