Federal Minister for Construction Alexander Dobrint described the official start of construction work on the Auerberg Tunnel as an “absolutely joyful day”. Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau is building the four-lane road tunnel, comprising two tubes, between Eschenlohe and Oberau as part of a joint venture. The Auerberg Tunnel is to connect directly to the A95 motorway and will be constructed using conventional tunnelling methods.
W&F board member Thomas Paetzold attended the ceremony. The traditional church blessing was given by the Catholic priest Josef Konitzer and the Protestant pastor Gottfried von Segnitz. They blessed the statue of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners. The tunnel’s patron is Barbara Barke from the State Building Authority in Weilheim.
The Auerberg Tunnel is expected to bring about a noticeable reduction in traffic congestion in the Oberland region. We wish everyone involved every success.
Good luck!
