With the takeover of around 320 employees and the movable assets of the insolvent Karrié Baugesellschaft and Karrié Bauwerkserhaltung as part of an asset deal, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, together with ZECH Bau SE, took a responsible step at the beginning of the year.
For many of the new colleagues, this transition also means new perspectives. For us as a company, it is also a valuable opportunity to grow together, pool expertise and further expand our strengths in building construction and structural maintenance.
This made the moment when we came together with ZECH Bau SE at the Mainz site on 25 February 2026 all the more special. The new flags were ceremoniously hoisted and new company logos were affixed to the building wall. The board members, managing directors and employees of the companies involved were also present.
The building construction expertise will be integrated into ZECH Bau SE projects in future. The employees from the building maintenance division will find their new home in the newly founded Wayss & Freytag Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH, which will establish a presence throughout Germany. With the Mainz site, the Zech Building division is expanding its regional positioning: it will be managed both as a new branch of ZECH Bau SE and as a site of Wayss & Freytag Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH. Other building maintenance sites will continue to operate as part of Wayss & Freytag Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH. The "Change Day" was therefore also accompanied with optimism at the Recklinghausen, Erfurt and Hamburg sites.
For ZECH Bau SE and Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, structural maintenance stands for responsible and resource-conserving construction - with a clear focus on renovation and revitalisation instead of new construction. This approach characterises both infrastructure activities and building construction projects.
