The specialist foundation engineering team working on the project to construct the new fifth lock chamber at Brunsbüttel has reached another milestone in the project’s implementation. The final one of a total of 1,589 jet-grouted piles has been successfully installed. Between October 2021 and November 2022, approximately 28,000 tonnes of cement were injected into the subsoil and around 25,000 metres of GEWI steel were installed to secure the lock chamber floor against buoyancy. Following the acceptance test and the installation of the anchor plates, the concreting of the underwater concrete base will commence.
