Groundbreaking Ceremony in Freising

Effective traffic reduction and an indispensable contribution to urban development – these are the advantages expected from the construction of the new west bypass in the Bavarian town of Freising near Munich. Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau, Area South, is building the Vötting Tunnel, with a contract value of approx. 25.5 million €, in a joint venture by order of the Municipality of Freising. During the groundbreaking ceremony for the tunnel, the centrepiece of the new traffic artery, Brigitta Brunner, Head of the District Government and Josef Hauner, District Administrator, emphasized the importance of the west bypass for the development of the region in the presence of numerous special guests and notabilities.

W&F board member Dr.-Eng. Michael Blaschko described the various construction methods to be used to build the approximately 850 meter long road tunnel: excavator drive, top-down and cut and cover methods. These construction methods and modern, noise-reduced construction equipment will help to keep the noise emissions to a minimum. The traditional honorary office of the tunnel patron was taken over by Barbara Schelle, the municipal architect, who bears the name of the patron saint of the miners. She gave the official start signal for the construction of the tunnel, which is due to be completed by the end of 2019.
